As a natural collector, I find things other than Sports Cards to be attractive: currencies, stamps, ticket stubs, non-sports-card autographs, and gameday programs; among other things.
I have found that only currency collecting (or, "Numism") is as or more profitable than Sports Cards collecting. I find it very interesting, but have not yet idenfified an angle at which to incorporate it into my business. I am almost constantly tempted to reduce the Sports Cards portfolio to become very focused on just a small set of players and/or teams - or, to broaden the scope of the business to include things like coins and paper currencies
Yet, I strongly believe that staying just with Sports Cards of all kinds with nuanced focii on certain teams from certain locations is the best for myself, right now.
Still, I find Numism cool and come across interesting stuff at my great part-time job. I'm particularly interested in so-called "Star Notes", like these two pictured.
