Auction: Kumar Rocker

This guy should have been a high first round MLB pick, but He's playing in Nashville for Vanderbilt. At His age, pitchers are primarily judged on the speed of their fastballs. Down the line, control and command (which are different things) are expected. Finally, secondary stuff is what makes a great pro player.

Apparently Kumar has good radar-gun speed. He also has a 6'5" frame, which adds to His release point and reduces the time hitters would have to react to His pitches. He's a bit overweight, but that is much easier to deal with as pitcher (see C.C. Sabathia) than as a hitter.

I'm guessing He already has good control and fair commmand. I don't know about His secondary stuff. I'll have to listen to the Vandy games next Spring to hear which pitches He throws for strikes and how He gets people out.

Net: Kumar Rocker is already high on the list of potential #1 overall picks.

NCAA FOOTBALL: Vandy v. Kentucky - 7, 7 at the half; in Lexington, KY.

Vandy is 3-4. Some think that it's already a lost season. But, when considering a school's athletics, I think it should be considered as 35% NCAA Football performance, 30% NCAA Basketball performance, 25% NCAA Baseball performance and 10% other sports' performances.

Given that Vandy has a top baseball program and a rapidly rising basketball program, a 50/50 regualr season football performance would go a long way to carry the football part of the athletics. EVERY GAME IN EVERY SPORT COUNTS.

Luck

I heard Grant Hill of Duke Basketball and the NBA say, describing the UK/Duke NCAAB game from the early 1990's - which really may be the greatest college basketball game ever played - that "Luck favors the prepared...". I agree. In terms of entrepreneurship and business, I believe that that means having an economic apparatus which capture "lucky" events and swallow then into the project or organization. And, this requires a strong capacity of patience, since luck is rare.
