JACKALS: "Drew's Cards'
This winner blocked me two years ago for saying something dumb about Mike Trout being overrated. He asked 'Who's overrated" and I started thinking about who is most rated because they would be prime targets for being most "overrated".
I can tell you one player in football who cannot be overrated: Blake Bortles, because everyone hates on Him like He's the Nickelback band of the NFL (I still don't totally see why).
Do you get it? If you're looking to find an overrated player, it's best to start with the most rated players. Take 2017. The five most rated offensive players that year in MLB (in my opinion) were...
1) Mike Trout
2) Aaron Judge
3) Kris Bryant
4) Cody Bellinger
5) Giancarlo Stanton
Now, obviously, Cody Bellinger was the most overrated of that list. But, given their 2017 performances, Stanton and Bryant come in close behind Bellinger. Even Aaron Judge did not perform offensively the way most thought that He would in 2018 (although His improvement in His defensive WAR score camouflaged His offensive WAR score).
The point is that it's not a bad way to go about the question. But I had not yet learned about WAR and I was genuinely ignorant about a lot of Sports Cards stuff. When I said that Mike Trout was the most overrated player, "Drew" called me an idiot. I told Him that He had asked the question to His Twitter followers and I had simply answered it. That's it. I think I said "What else do you want from me?".
And, He blocked me... I guess for life.
Sports Cards will never be what they can be without new blood. Take "Daily Fantasy". It went from nothing to millions of dollars of revenue in a few short years on 100% "new blood". It's embarrassing that Daily Fantasy is just a few years old and already much bigger than the Sports Cards market. Remember, Sports Cards have been around for at least 67 years (not counting pre-1951 cards). And, it's still quite a small thing.
New blood mean people getting into Sports Cards without much knowledge of it. It means a large learning curve for many. But, if you encounter someone who knows less than you... please don't block them, unless you just can't help but be a JACKAL. Teach them. Get them in the game. Get them to teach their friends, and to get their friends in the game.
I guarantee that Mr. "Drew" and His cards would be more valuable if He took the time to encourage the base of buyers to grow.
Defensive WAR vs. Gold Glove Wards
I still don't get or know of most of Sabermetrics (the modern statistics of baseball).
Like, if Andrew Benentendi of the Boston Red Sox finished the 2018 MLB regular season with a cumulative -0.6 Defensive Wins Above Replacement (dWAR), then why would He be nominated for a 2018 MLB Gold Glove Award?
With Sabermetrics (and a lot of other things in my life) I wait to do research until I am fairly sure it will payoff or until there are competing things which can't all be true given my understandings of how things work. I'm going to have to figure out why Defensive WAR and the Gold Gloves' system don't seem to be measuring the same things when it comes to defense and fielding in Major League Baseball.
Verbal Political Attacks Are Not Real Bombs
CNN is arguing there that the verbal "attacks" of Republicans are pretty similar and the cause of some probably disturbed and confused person's making and sending of bombs to prominent Democrats.
Words aren't bombs. Verbal attacks on others are not acts of terrorism. We should be grown-up enough to know the difference. In fact, that difference between words and actions is a bedrock of a free society we are guaranteed by the first amendment of the Constitution.
Hypocritically, CNN is attacking Donald Trump for attacking CNN. Politics and culture are both sh*t-shows right now seemingly committed to hypocrisy.
David Price
Price showed His stuff and competitive nature last night in Game 2 of the 2018 MLB World Series at home in Boston, MA. I don't think He'll make it to the MLB Hall of fame in Cooperstown, NY; but, He has a bit of a chance if He stays healthy and His best years are yet to come.
Walker Buehler is set to go for the Dodgers in Los Angeles for Game 3. I'm expecting the same or better perfromance from Him.
David's antics with Dennis Eckersley aside, I'm proud of these two Vanderbilt Baseball guys.
Renting Higher Education
I'm not sure what to think of the University of Louisville being in the real estate business. Whether it's focusing too much on athletics, obsessing about intellectualism which is difficult to apply in the labor market, or doing stuff like this; I think "higher ed" often loses sight of its vocational mission.
Still, if medical schools find it pedagogically helpful to operate "teaching hospitals" to train medical students, residents, and fellowship students while keeping proffesors sharp - AND they can make a lot of money at it while providing a valuable service to many - then they should do so, and, maybe, business schools should operate a commercial consulting group and schools of education should run elementary charter schools.

Freezer Economics
My weekly paycheck is about $300, after taxes and payments for health benefits. That's all I have to work with, business-wise and personally.
This might be a source of encouragement to people who think that they don't have enough money to invest in their own businesses generally or Sports Cards specifically.
Anyway, for a sole proprietor like Myself, you have to be as proficient in "Home Economics" as you are in "Business Economics". I had wanted an upright freezer for a while, and I finally got one. It cost about $160. But, now that I have the extra space, I can take advantage of sales. These three blocks of steak were fresh but discounted. I saved $23.85, and they are sitting snuggly in My freezer. I've done stuff like that about four times, so I'm more than halfway to breaking even. After I do that, it'll be like money in my pocket until the freezer breaks, which shouldn't happen for at least five years.
I am having to wait to see my investment show fruit (or, steak and frozen pizzas). This is another lesson to prospective entrepreneurs living in a world which expects large and immediate returns: real enterprises take a lot of time, investments, and hard work to payoff.
Jack Fruit
This is the biggest and highest-priced piece of fruit I have ever seen. Apparently, it's called "Jack Fruit".
I bet it's epic. And, I'd like to see the tree which produced it.
4K
I've been thinking about getting a 4k TV. I got my current 48", non-4k one on eBay for $90 two years ago, and it's been great.
All of my movies are digital on Google Play. I like the far less amount of clutter now than I had with DVDs and some Blu-Rays. Very rarely are there connectivity issues between my desktop and the Chromecast I use, unless my cat f*cks it up (He likes to relax on wires).
I bought my first 4k Ultra show on Google Play last week (War Dogs), because it was on-sale for $7.99 compared to $29.99. Also, I really like the movie.
BUT! I just logged into my Google Play app and found this.... (pictured). I always wondered how they would handle movies previously purchased on legacy formats. I guess that if you bought the highest format at the time then you will get upgrades as higher formats roll-out, assuming there will be higher and higher formats than 4k. But, idk.
Regardless, since 4k versions sell for $20 more a piece than HD versions, I just gained $440 of value in my life. HOORAY!
Now, I just need a 4k TV... Black Friday??
JACKALS
This user petitioned for a deal on this card by saying that He played with the player when He was a kid.
A) I don't, wouldn't and won't care.
B) People lie on eBay (I usually don't; my alleged crimes come from myself researching, studying, knowing and using the platform's rules to my advantage in ways that are either nuetral regarding or positively contributing to the good faith mission of the platform and the realm of Sports Cards in general).
I also dislike people using their children to try to make adult purchases for great, valuable cards by saying it's for "Little Jimmy". Although, I do want to introduce cards to young people.
PROSPECT: Christian Pache; Atlanta Braves
As if it's fair that the Braves have yet another hot prospect.
After Dansby Swanson, Ronald Acuna Jr., Ozzie Albies, Kyle Wright, Mike Soroka, Ian Anderson, Touki Toussaint, Austin Riley, Luiz Gohara, Drew Waters, and Bryce Wilson; I am now looking at Christian Pache as another great and young talent on the MLB.com Top 100 Prospect Watch list.
He's different, because His strengths are fielding and speed - both scored at "70" on the scouting scale of "20" to "80". He is only 68th on the list, but at 19-years-old (and about to be 20 in November) He's near the top of a short list of the best MLB prospects His age.
I think MLB.com is shorting Him too much a bit. There are many prospects above Him with grades of "50" or "55" across all skills. He has those, but also has two "70" scores. There are not many prospects out there with just one "70". He has two.
Running and fielding are youthful stats which are the first to leave a player near the age of 28 (Jose Altuve?). But, still. The analysis at MLB.com says He might be the best defensive prospect in MiLB. That's a large statement.
Defensive Wins Above Replacement (WAR) scores make a huge difference to a lot of players and teams. Defensive WAR is one of the great benefits of SABRmetrics in the modern baseball world. If Pache can keep His fielding and running where it is, and up His average or His average and His power; then, He could be quite a player.
The Braves, with so many choices of young talent, had Pache end the year at the AA level, so it's obvious they have high expectations and regards for Him. If He debuts in the MLB next year at 20-yrs-old or even the next year as a young 21-year-old, He'll offer coveted hopes for prodigious WAR and other statistical production which always gets that type of player rolling more quickly towards a Hall of Fame resume.
